How to Repair Trampoline Stitching

Trampolines can be a lot of fun and will last you many years if kept in good repair. Unfortunately there are a few ways that trampolines start to break down and they all should be fixed regularly. Usually after about five to eight years the trampoline stitching will start to rip. Even one rip is enough of a reason to get all people off the trampoline immediately. It does not seem like a big deal but a rip ruins the structural integrity of the trampoline, leaving anyone still bouncing vulnerable to sever injury.

It is possible to repair a tear on your own, but usually you will need to get help from professionals. Before you start to repair any damage take a few things into consideration. The first is that you should not try to undertake steps to repair the problem if it is the canvas. If the canvas itself is ripped you should buy a new canvas. This is because the weakest canvas for the trampoline is made to withstand 275 pounds. The threads that make up this canvas stretch from one end to the other without stopping. When a rip forms it permanently damages the integrity of the trampoline and the only solution is to buy a new one. Otherwise it may reopen while you are bouncing on it. Also, if the rip is more than one inch in length, or if there are a lot of holes, more than three is a good rule, you may want to consider just buying a new one instead. While these are still fixable, the cost to fix them is usually higher than just buying a new kit.

If you are going to repair the stitching yourself, you should get heavy duty canvas stitching. This ensure that it will still hold the optimum weight. If you have a sewing machine, the good news is that this should work with your sewing machine and you will not have to try to push the needle through yourself. Otherwise, know before you go into it that this make take a while and be a little frustrating because the stitching will be hard to get through the fabric. Make sure you double up on your stitching, so go over it once and then double back. This will take care of any fear of the stitching not giving enough with the bounce.
