Trampolines come in a variety of shapes and sizes. There are little circular ones that you can place in just about any room or there are giant rectangular ones that are a great source of fun in a large backyard. Trampolines are not only enjoyable but they are a great exercise tool for kids and adults of all ages. However, as fun as they can be it is very important to stay on top of the maintenance. If damage goes unnoticed, it has the potential to cause serious injury to those on it.
One of the more common problems is a broken spring. If your trampoline is outside and experiences many different types of weather, it is possible that the springs can corrode and eventually break. When this happens it is important that they are replaced as soon as possible because jumping with a broken spring can put undue stress on the remaining springs as well as the mat. Fortunately replacing a broken spring is fairly simple and inexpensive. Begin by removing the broken the spring. It is a good idea to take it with you to purchase a new one so that you can be sure that you get one that is the same length and diameter. Then you can simply install the new spring and reconvene the jumping.
Another common problem with trampolines is sun rot. Even though they are designed to be outside, if they are old or left uncovered when not in use it is only a matter of time before they begin to develop holes. If the holes are small they can easily be covered with duct tape; however if the holes become larger that could be a serious safety hazard and the whole mat will need to be replaced. Unfortunately most of the time mat will need to be ordered from the manufacturer. The best, and safest, thing to do is remove the old mat immediately and throw it away. Then when the new mat arrives you can simply reattach each of the springs and the trampoline is as good as new.
